Transport for nsw
The NSW Government wants walking and bike riding, known as active transport, to be the preferred way to make short trips and a viable, safe and efficient option for longer trips.
Transport for NSW (Transport) is committed to raising the profile of bike riding as a healthy, low cost and environmentally friendly form of transport.
Lifeline and Bicycle NSW, in partnership with Transport, seek to;
- Engage NSW’s public in active transport and cycling safety through the Spring Cycle
- Support community members in NSW through Lifeline’s services
- Encourage people to change their travel behaviour and lean into walking, riding and/or using micromobility across NSW
- Showcase and promote use of the new active transport infrastructure in development or recently opened
- Support long term health benefits for NSW residents through active transport; and
- Establish riding, walking and micromobility as viable transport alternatives
We are working to improve the experience of riding as a mode of transport and have developed the Active Transport Strategy to outline the following key objectives:
- Promote cycling as a viable and sustainable option for recreation and transport
- Promote the benefits of physical of activities to support mental health and wellbeing
- Promote walking and cycling to encourage behaviour change
- Demonstrate improved safety and comfort of people walking and riding bikes in fit-for-purpose active transport infrastructure
- Facilitate children and young people’s independent mobility
- Support multimodal journeys by integrating active and public transport
- Support emerging technology choices such as e-bikes and other micromobility devices
- Enhance visitor and tourism experiences
- Work with partners such as local government and industry to accelerate positive change
